Windows 11 was officially launched on June 24, 2021. Windows 11 has several new features and improvements compared to its predecessor, Windows 10. Some of the notable features include:
- New Start menu: Windows 11 features a redesigned Start menu that combines elements of the traditional Start menu with the Live Tiles from Windows 8. This new design allows for quick and easy access to frequently used apps and files, as well as providing real-time updates and notifications.
- Snap Layouts: Windows 11 introduces Snap Layouts, a feature that allows users to easily organize and arrange multiple open windows on their screen. This feature makes it easy to keep multiple apps and files visible and accessible while working.
- New Alt+Tab: Windows 11 features a new Alt+Tab interface that allows users to easily switch between open apps and files. The new interface provides a visual preview of each open window, making it easier to find and switch to the desired app or file.
- Touchscreen improvements: Windows 11 includes several improvements for touchscreen users, including larger touch targets and a new touch keyboard. The new touch keyboard includes a split layout for easier typing with thumbs and a handwriting recognition feature for scribbling with a pen.
- Improved taskbar: The taskbar in Windows 11 has been redesigned to provide quick access to frequently used apps, as well as real-time updates and notifications. The taskbar also includes a new feature called Snap Groups, which allows users to group multiple windows together for easy organization and access.
- Improved Action Center: Windows 11 features an improved Action Center that provides quick access to important settings and notifications. The new Action Center also includes a new feature called Focus Assist, which allows users to temporarily turn off notifications and distractions while working.
- Microsoft Edge: Windows 11 includes the new Microsoft Edge browser, which is based on the Chromium open-source project. The new Edge browser includes improved performance, enhanced security, and new features such as tab groups and a built-in internet explorer mode.
- Microsoft Store apps: Windows 11 includes the ability to run Microsoft Store apps in their own windows, similar to traditional desktop apps. This allows users to easily switch between apps and multitask, while also providing a more seamless experience.
- DirectX 12 Ultimate: Windows 11 includes support for DirectX 12 Ultimate, which provides improved performance and graphics capabilities for gaming and other graphics-intensive tasks.
- Windows Hello: Windows 11 includes Windows Hello, a biometric authentication system that allows users to log in to their device using facial recognition, fingerprint recognition, or a PIN.
- Cloud-based settings and files: Windows 11 allows users to store their settings and files in the cloud, making it easy to access them across multiple devices. This feature also allows users to easily share files and collaborate with others.
- Improved Windows Update: Windows 11 includes an improved Windows Update feature that allows users to easily manage and schedule updates for their device. The new feature also includes the ability to pause updates and schedule them for a later time.
